First Look: What to Expect From the Huawei Mate X6

While the Mate X5 just launched, rumors have already begun swirling about Huawei’s next foldable flagship, the Mate X6. By examining the formidable Mate X5, we can make some educated guesses about what upgrades the X6 may offer.

The massive 7.8-inch inner display on the X5 showcased Huawei’s folding prowess. We’d bet on the X6 adopting an even larger screen, perhaps squeezing in an 8-inch panel while maintaining a similar compact folded size.

Performance should see sizable gains with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip likely powering things. This could provide a significant boost over the already potent Kirin 9000S. RAM and storage capacities will surely get a bump as well.

Camera specs tend to receive noticeable improvements annually. Don’t be surprised if the X6 debuts a 200MP main sensor or adds additional periscope lenses and sensors. 8K video recording is also within reach.

Battery lifespan is one area that could use upgrading. While the X5’s 5060mAh cell is large, we hope to see 6000mAh or larger on the X6 along with even faster wired/wireless charging speeds.

Pricing will remain high-end but Huawei may find ways to undercut Samsung and other flagships. If perfected folding technology and top-shelf specs are realized, the Mate X6 may be the foldable to beat next year.
