Huawei Nova 12 Pro Review: A Powerful Mid-Ranger with Impressive Specs

Huawei introduced its latest Nova-series smartphone, the Nova 12 Pro, back in December 2023. As the “Pro” model in the lineup, it aims to deliver flagship-level performance at a mid-range price point. After reviewing the full specs sheet from GSM Arena, here are my key takeaways on what this device has to offer.

Design and Display

The Nova 12 Pro sports a large 6.76-inch OLED screen with FHD+ resolution and a high 120Hz refresh rate. This would provide a very smooth and immersive visual experience. It has a rectangular camera module on the back and measures 163.1 x 75 x 7.7mm, so it’s a decent size without being too bulky. Overall the design looks sleek while still being functional.

Hardware and Performance

Under the hood is Huawei’s powerful Kirin 9000S chipset, which should deliver plenty of raw power for games and intensive apps. It’s backed by a generous 8GB of RAM as well. With 256GB or 512GB of internal storage, you’ll have ample room for files, photos, and videos. Additional perks include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and stereo speakers.

For photography, there’s a 50MP main camera paired with an 8MP ultrawide. Selfies are handled by a 60MP + 8MP dual-lens front camera. Video recording tops out at 4K resolution as well. On paper, the cameras seem capable of capturing detailed shots and versatile angles.

A 4600mAh battery powers the device, which should provide all-day endurance on a single charge. Even better, it supports ridiculously fast 100W wired charging that can fill the battery from zero to 60% in just 10 minutes. Reverse wireless charging is also supported.

Takeaway

Priced fairly in the mid-range segment, the Nova 12 Pro looks like an excellent value if you want flagship specs and performance without the ultra-high price tag. Between the powerful specs, good-sized display, and fast charging, it seems well-rounded as a daily driver. I’d love to test out things like the cameras, performance, and battery life more hands-on.
